Licensees have been urged not to ignore police letters about polycarbonate glasses which may land on their doorstep.Federation of Licensed Victuallers Associations chief executive Tony Payne advised hosts to contact local police if they have any concerns about moves to force them to switch to plastic containers.
“My advice is for them to seek a meeting and ask police what grounds they have for suggesting that the host switches to using plastic glasses. ”A risk assessment is also essential for any licensee, to demonstrate that the potential for damage and disorder from any source, including glassware, has been fully evaluated,” Payne said.”It will provide evidence that a licensee has taken the right precautions to deal with any problems,” he added.
