South Shropshire brewers Wood’s have launched a special beer to celebrate the move of local Football League club Shrewsbury Town from their old ground, Gay Meadow, to their new stadium, the New Meadow, next season.Wood’s are donating 10p from every pint of Meadow Brew sold to ShrewsTRUST, the Shrewsbury Town supporters’ association, who will pass it on to the club to help pay for a yet-to-be-decided project.
Shrewsbury have lifelong supporters in the shapes of Wood’s Managing Director Edward Wood and Financial Controller Colin James. “We’ve both spent large amounts of time watching games at the Meadow. It’s in one of the prettiest settings in the country, almost 100 years old, and holds a lot of memories. The move to the new ground for next season is very exciting and we see the beer as a tribute,” said Edward. The beer was called Meadow Brew after ShrewsTRUST ran a competition through BBC Radio Shropshire to come up with a name. “There were lots of clever and funny ones, but Meadow Brew said it all about the old ground and the new, so we went with it,? said Edward. The beer is a 4.2% amber bitter. Shrewsbury’s colours are blue and amber and, along with free houses and wholesalers, the club is taking some to celebrate the move.
