ALEX RUTHERFORD-DOAK AND EVE QUINN FROM THE DOG AND BONE LINCOLN WIN
BATEMANS ‘PUBLICAN OF THE YEAR’.

Batemans, the Lincolnshire based Brewer and Retailer, has announced the winners of its Rewarding Success Initiative. The programme is designed to help improve standards in the key areas of licensed retailing across the whole tenanted estate. The event culminated in a Gala Dinner at the Brewery where the award winners were announced. Categories included: Floral Display and External Appearance, Best Pub Website, Beautiful Beer Cellar Management, Fulfilling Wine and Spirit Potential, Customer Service and Internal Standards, Fulfilling Food Potential, Best Community Pub and the overall winner – ‘Publican of the Year’.

Following a series of mystery visits, the top accolade of ‘Publican of the Year’ was awarded to Alex Rutherford-Doak and partner Eve Quinn from the Dog and Bone Lincoln. They received a trophy, which will be returned for next year’s competition, an engraved plaque to be hung at the pub, £400 cash and a framed certificate. Winners of each individual category were awarded £200 plus an engraved trophy, plaque and a framed certificate. All this year’s Winners and Runners Up are invited to a Race Day at Market Rasen in November.

Stuart Bateman, managing director of Batemans Brewery who presented the Publican of the Year award said:
“Alex and Eve saved the Dog and Bone from the bulldozers when they took the pub over a couple of years ago, with their unbridled enthusiasm and drive to succeed. Through their commitment and innovation they have kept the pub full of customers, offering regular events, music, arts festivals and even a book-swap facility and have established a reputation second to none. This is topped off by offering an excellent range of cask ales as well as, this year launching a simple, but high quality delicious food menu. They are deserved winners.”
