Harry Enfield samples award-winning Box Steam ales

Award-winning comic actor Harry Enfield was spotted enjoying award-winning ales at an award-winning pub near Bradford-on-Avon this weekend.

This was not the first visit to THE CROSS GUNS AT AVONCLIFF for Harry Enfield, and landlord Ken Roberts was delighted to see him return to enjoy the last of the summer sunshine from the pub’s idyllic riverside location.

The Cross Guns is owned by the same family as THE BOX STEAM BREWERY – whose ales Mr Enfield delighted in sampling, before proclaiming TUNNEL VISION – the Chippenham CAMRA “Beer of the Festival” as his favourite.

Bar Manager Emily Parker asked Harry to autograph a poster advertising Winter Pimm’s – on which he is featured as part of their advertising campaign – and he was only to happy to oblige, adding in some extra cartoons and witticisms of his own, making the poster totally unique.

Locals and visitors alike enjoyed the company of Mr Enfield, who joins the ranks of celebrities known to have frequented the pub, such as Kevin Spacey, Ruby Wax and Rowan Atkinson.

In fact, according to the Sunday Times magazine, Kevin Spacey recently nominated the Kennet & Avon Canal at Avoncliff his favourite British Countryside view in England.

The Wiltshire Times (5th September 2008) quotes Spacey as saying “The thing I love about the countryside is you never quite know what you’re going to get”.

Nor whom you’re going to meet, it would seem!
