| Yorkshire brewer Acorn has rolled out clear wheat beer Summer Pale (4.1%abv) to – hopefully – greet the sunshine.
Straw coloured ale with a floral aroma and slight bitterness, Summer Pale is brewed using wheat malt together with Mount Hood and Styrian Goldings hops. A well received seasonal ale in previous years it will be available until September and is listed with the SIBA Direct Delivery Scheme (DDS). Managing director and head brewer Dave Hughes said: “Summer Pale is a light refreshing brew and excellent seasonal addition to our regular range. Back by popular demand, it has been a big hit in previous years and when the sun shines will do particularly well. “The hops used work very well with our traditional yeast strain. Because of its popularity in past years it is on the DDS list along with our core brands, so it will be available to most pubs in South Yorkshire owned by the big pub companies.” The same yeast strain from Barnsley Brewery, founded in the 1800s, is used in all Acorn beers, including core brands – Barnsley Bitter, Barnsley Gold and Old Moor Porter. Acorn has won some forty awards since brewing began less than five years ago. At the Oakwood Beer Festival in Rotherham in February Barnsley Bitter triumphed as the top standard strength bitter before being proclaimed bronze winner in the overall Champion Beer of Yorkshire final. Barnsley Bitter also took the Silver Award in its class at Camra’s Great British Beer Festival 2006 |
