| The Isle of Arran Brewery’s first bottle conditioned beer was named one of the champion ales at the Ayrshire Real Ale Festival on Saturday.Â
Judges at Troon Town Hall chose Arran Milestone, a dark amber beer, as CAMRA Scottish Champion Real Ale in a Bottle. Gwen Billson and Elisabeth Roberts from the Cladach based brewery travelled to Troon for the event. ‘I was absolutely thrilled when I heard that we had win,’ said Gwen. ‘The judges came by the stand before hand to let us know that we were one of the ten beers shortlisted. After a brief chat I told them that I hoped we would win, and we did.’ There were more than 100 beers on offer at the festival – most of which are listed in the Good Beer Guide. There were examples of all British beers including Scottish milds and English bitters. The Arran Milestone was launched in 2006 to mark the 1000th brew on the island. It is described as a dark, bottle conditioned, amber brew with a subtle balance of malt and floral hop character. Taken from: www.arranbanner.co.uk |
