| Harviestoun Brewery is celebrating victory at the World Beer Awards 2008: Schiehallion is the ‘World’s Best Premium Lager (Pilsner)’.
Schiehallion is a crisp cask conditioned lager with a fresh taste of grapefruit. Delicately crafted using Hersbrucker lager hops, it is fermented at a very low temperature with lager yeast. Schiehallion is named after one of Scotland’s best known mountains. Shrouded in cool, refreshing, misty swirls of early morning air, it is the inspiration for this beer which is widely available in 500ml bottles (RRP £2.10) and cask at 4.8%ABV. An international panel of judges tasted their way through hundreds of entries from the United Kingdom, Europe, the United States, Australia and beyond to find winners in a number of categories. These winners then went head to head at a blind tasting event, where the UK’s top brewers selected the best beers in each category: World’s Best Standard Lager, World’s Best Premium Lager etc. Roger Protz, chairman of judges, said: “This is an exciting time for beer drinkers. More craft brewers are making beers bursting with distinctive and exciting aromas and flavours. The judges have been overwhelmed by the quality of the beers and it has been an immensely difficult task choosing the winners.” Chris Miller, Managing Director of Harviestoun Brewery, enthuses “Our aim is to make exceptional award-winning beers that people enjoy drinking. Following on from Bitter & Twisted winning ‘World’s Best Ale’ last year, we are delighted that Schiehallion has gained recognition on the global stage.” Harviestoun Brewery, based in Alva, is a wholly independent award-winning micro-brewery, regarded by many as the UK’s most innovative. |
