The Goose has landed!

The were big cheers all around when Purity Brewing Co celebrated its third birthday with the cask launch of its latest beer at the Holly Bush Inn, Alcester on November 11 in front of a packed house.

There was almost no room at the inn as the independent craft brewery officially launched its newest brew, a full bodied Pale Ale called Mad Goose in front over a hundred invited guests that included customers, representatives from the brewing industry, local beer aficionados and members of the Alcester’s very own Court Leet including Ale Taster.

Guest from as far away as Germany were entertained by local musical talent, The Stephen Steinhaus Trio and charmed by the ancient traditions of the town’s colourful Court Leet, whose new Ale Taster Terry Pegrum thankfully declared Mad Goose “wholesome and fit to drink” in time-honoured fashion.

The brew is a zesty yet smooth take on the classic beer style and is the latest offering from the award-winning brewery which for the last three years has cultivated a reputation for easy-drinking beers with eco-friendly credentials.

Inspired by a gang of four geese that fearlessly patrol the brewery’s farm location at Upper Spernall Farm, Great Alne, Mad Goose has already proved a big hit within the brewing industry. It recently won gold in its category at the Society of Independent Brewers Midlands beer competition 2008 and will go head to head with six other regional finalists in February 2009 when the national winners will be decided.

Purity’s Managing Director Paul Halsey said “We’re ecstatic Goose has already won a top regional award. This really gives us credibility in a very competitive market place. Mad Goose is the next stage on from our easy drinking golden ale Pure Gold. We’ve responded to our customers who said they’d like something in between that and our premium amber ale Pure UBU. Mad Goose gives us a real balance and choice over the range.”

And far from being crunched by the current credit crisis, Purity sales have rocketed up 77% in September and October. To service this increase in demand, three new members of staff have recently been taken on to work in office support, sales and distribution.

Paul Halsey continued: “Our third birthday has certainly brought us much to celebrate and be proud of. It is a tough world out there but our commitment to consistently producing a top quality product has been the key to our success. We look forward with much excitement and anticipation to the challenges ahead and beginning our fourth year brewing top class ales.”

Mad Goose is a zesty light copper coloured beer with a great hop character. It is available direct from the brewery in 50cl bottles, 9 pint mini-casks and 36 pint poly-pins or on draught from discerning local free houses.
