Kent’s Westerham Brewery purchases first pub

The Westerham Brewery is proud to announce the purchase of its first public house. Last Friday 20th February the Westerham Brewery Pub Company completed the purchase of The Royal Oak in Crockham Hill, a 600 yard walk from the brewery, from Shepherd Neame.

The pub is a traditional community local in the heart of a vibrant village community. Bucking the trend of pub closures, Robert Wicks, founder and managing director of the Westerham Brewery said: ” We are proud to be able to step in and purchase this great pub. The pub was once a Westerham Ales pub supplied by the Black Eagle Brewery which closed in 1965. Having revived the fortunes of brewing in Westerham, we are delighted to be able to buy back the first pub that used to serve the famous ales of Westerham. Mark and Wayne, the tenants in the pub, will be serving Finchcocks Original, Grasshopper Kentioch Bitter and British Bulldog beers from the brewery. We will also avoid the national brand lagers in the pub, favouring Pilsner Urquell, the orginal pilsner, from Plzen in Czechoslovakia. It is a great pub to walk to being in the heart of the best walking country in Kent. Mark serves good home made pub food in a traditional community local pub.”

Michael Fallon, the local MP will formally open the on Friday 27th February at 11.30 – 12.00pm and will be available to discuss his views on community pubs. Robert Wicks will also be on hand to meet members of the press and to discuss the recent local brewing report issued by SIBA showing that local breweries are seeing sales growth of over 10%.

We hope you will be able to attend the opening. Please email Robert Wicks at info@westerhambrewery.co.uk to register your attendance or to ask for further details.
