Summerskills launch their new “Beer of the year” at the Boringdon Arms, Plymouth.
The pale beer is called Out, Back and Home and with an A.B.V. of 4.7% is dedicated to the Royal Navy’s H.M. Naval Base Devonport Field Gun Crew.
Carl Beeson a former member of the Royal Navy and the owner of Summerskills Brewery said “The Field Gun competition has been run for over 100 years and celebrates one of the Royal Navy’s magnificent feats when they unshipped guns from HMS Powerful in Durban, South Africa, put them onto running gear and transported them to Ladysmith which at the time was under attack from the Boers in 1899”.
The beer is named after the three sections of a run, the first OUT , represents the guns being unloaded from HMS Powerful, the second BACK represents the transporting of the guns to Ladysmith and HOME is the guns being placed to face the Boers.
A donation from each firkin sold will be give to the team.
The beer will be available in both draught and bottled form and available through the normal wholesale channels.
