Beer sales may be in steep decline but real ale, once seen as the dowdy English alternative to its flashier continental cousins, is proving to be more resilient, writes Pan Kwan Yuk .
According to the Society of Independent Brewers, sales of locally produced beers rose 10 per cent last year. This is in contrast to the wider beer market, which suffered an 8 per cent fall during the period.
