Queen Of Hearts Leads White Hart’s £10,000 Heart Charity Effort
Ron Wheatley’s pub, Batemans White Hart, in Old Leake, Lincolnshire has been raising around £4,000 for charity annually. When Ron’s wife Val, died suddenly last year from a heart attack, Ron, the licensee of 14 years set a target of raising £10,000 for the British Heart Foundation. Batemans Brewery, customers of the pub and the local community are supporting him and his family in their efforts with numerous charity events during the August Bank Holiday weekend (29th-31st August 2009).
Customers of the pub have paid £1.00 each to name an exclusive ale which has been brewed by Batemans to support Ron and his campaign which will be on sale during August only at the White Hart. The winning name is ‘Queen of Hearts’. The design of the pump clip and beer mats which uses the visual of a playing card, was created via a competition run by the pub for the 6th form art department of ‘The Giles’ school, specialists in visual arts, situated opposite the pub. Twenty pence from each pint sold will be donated to the charity by Batemans Brewery during the month of August.
Ron’s children Kerry (39) and Dennis (40) will be undertaking a three-day 180 mile charity bike ride with their friends from Essex to Old Leake to raise additional funds. Batemans Brewery has purchased a bike for Kerry. The cyclists’ overnight accommodation in Boston will also be paid for by
The Brewery.
The famous charity five-mile pram push which has started from the pub for the past thirty years will also be taking place on Sunday 30th August. Kerry and Dennis aim to be at the pub in time to take part in the walk. The pram push is a fancy dress carnival where numbers of the local community make their own prams. It begins at The White Hart at 10.30am and will finish around 4.00pm.
“Ron Wheatley says: “We have set ourselves this target of £10,000 in Val’s name. The support of everyone has been fantastic; it seems the whole community is contributing in one way or another.â€
Rob Jones, Batemans Profit Partnership Director says: “We are proud that Ron does so much for charity each year and we are absolutely delighted to get involved with him to make this year’s fundraising break all records. We all miss Val, and this is a fitting tribute to her.â€
The White Hart pub is situated in Church Road, Old Leake, Boston, Lincolnshire and is open from 12 noon to 12 midnight every day.
