Golden Hare Lives Up To Its Name
Bath Ales have scooped the top prize for the second year running and won Sainsbury’s Beer Competition 2009. The announcement came during a presentation yesterday and Golden Hare in bottle won the competition with a clear margin.
The competition was launched in November 2008 and attracted 115 entries (from 57 brewers), of which 15 were chosen for the final. All finalists went on sale in over 400 Sainsbury’s stores nationwide for a three week period during August and September. The winners were the ales that sold most in that period, thus letting customers decide.
Mark Harding of Bath Ales Brewery said: “We can’t believe that we have won the 2009 competition but are absolutely delighted to have been crowned winners for the second year running. (We won with Barnstormer last year). We are even more proud that the nation has voted by buying Golden Hare. For a small brewer like Bath Ales, this is a great chance to now showcase Golden Hare on a national stage. We jumped at the opportunity to take part in this competition. Now that Golden Hare has won as well, it has further justified the investment Bath Ales has made in a state-of-the- art bottling plant to complement the brewery. We are confident that we can supply as the demand increases”, said Mark.
Nic Storey, Sainsbury’s beer buyer said: “The Sainsbury’s Beer Competition has not only encouraged customers to try something new but has allowed us to work with some of the most enthusiastic and passionate suppliers in the sector. We can’t wait to see the two winning ales in-store in time for Christmas.”
So watch out for Golden Hare as it will hit the stores again later this year. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who’s bought and enjoyed Golden Hare.
