Purity MD hails ‘phenomenal’ year-end results

Purity Brewing Co., the independent Warwickshire-based brewery, experienced an 83 per cent rise in turnover.

The brewery’s end-of-year financial results for 2008/09 reveal turnover growing to £1.37m, from £751,000 in the previous financial year. This exceeded Purity’s target turnover of £1.1m by 24 per cent.

Sales of Purity’s three award-winning beers, Mad Goose, Pure UBU and Pure Gold, meant that the brewery produced enough beer in its 2008/09 financial year to serve nearly 1.4m pints.

This growth can be attributed to the brewery successfully positioning its beers in an increasing number of pubs and retail outlets. Today, its beers are being sold in approximately 400 pubs, compared to around 200 outlets a year ago.

Purity’s Managing Director, Paul Halsey, said: “We’ve had a phenomenal year but the company will not be resting on its laurels. In fact, we are beginning our 2009/10 financial year on a high as a result of new contracts that are now coming into effect.

“The most recent is our partnership with Adnams, the Suffolk coastal brewer, which will see it sell our brands to its direct trading footprint, which covers the south east, including London, and the east of England.

“We also signed a deal with Mitchells & Butlers to supply Pure UBU to around 50 of its pubs in the Midlands region.

“We are committed to further investment in the business to cater for our future growth. One important such investment is the building of a new shop, sales office and meeting rooms, which will open at the end of October.”

In addition to the growth in sales and turnover, Purity also increased its staff numbers by 100 per cent from six to 12.

Another highlight of the past year for Purity was the successful launch of Mad Goose, a pale ale, in November 2008. The brand has proven to be incredibly popular with drinkers and also won Gold in the Champion Best Bitter (4.1 – 4.5%) category of the SIBA National Beer Competition.
