Beer at Home means Davenports again!

Back in 1904, John Davenport had a fantastic idea. Rumour has it he was a milkman in a former life, as he decided to start delivering bottles of beer direct to people’s front doors.

His colleagues called him crazy (until bonuses were due, when they were strangely supportive of the idea), but nevertheless Mr. Davenport persevered, and 50 years later Davenports Beer at Home was one of the best known services offered by the brewing industry, with TV adverts that even Mrs. Jones and her eleven cats knew the words to, lorries and delivery vans flying around Spaghetti Junction like a kamikaze on heat, and beer that would turn your knees to jelly and make you emit strange sounds like “oooh” and “aaah”.

In 1989 a big bad company came along and decided that contrary to popular belief, apparently you can have too much of a good thing, and put a stop to these fantastic deliveries.

But 20 years on, we decided to jump on the comeback band wagon, much like Take That, rave paint and the recession (booooo). Davenports Beer at Home is making a return to your HDMI screens in a fantastic online format that allows you to purchase your favourite beers of yesteryear, as well as some of our latest concoctions that have been subject to rave reviews (mainly from ourselves, but hey, that’s as good as anything).

So take a stroll down memory lane, view the old advertisements, see what we’re up to nowadays, and more importantly remind your taste buds what they’ve been missing and take a look at our online shop, which also stocks Highgate brands.
