East Yorkshire brewery celebrates success at independent brewing awards with gluten free ale for people with coeliac disease

East Yorkshire business Wold Top Brewery is celebrating after its gluten free beer Against the Grain was awarded the gold medal in the speciality bottled beer category at the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) Northern awards

Coeliac disease is an auto-immune disease caused by intolerance to gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye and barley. It is estimated that 1% of the population has coeliac disease, but only 1in 8 cases are ever diagnosed. People with coeliac disease have to exclude gluten from their diet and often find it difficult to source gluten free foods that are as tasty as their ‘mainstream’ counterparts.
