Batemans Brewery Host Poker Tournament

Batemans, the independent Lincolnshire-based brewery and retailer has seen poker nights taking pubs by storm as the new team sport, following a trend seen in Australia and the USA. The Brewery will be hosting its second inter-pub Poker tournament beginning in March 2010.

“Poker has become extremely popular in our pubs” says Rob Jones, Profit Partnership Director, Batemans Brewery. “Participants do not play for money, but for points and prizes, ensuring the tournaments do not infringe gaming laws, our first tournament which we held in 2009 was a great success with fourteen pubs participating – twenty-two pubs are taking part this year.”

Participating Batemans pubs put forward competing teams, pub teams play each other for points (with players also able to collect points on an individual basis), to decide on the pub team champion. The top twenty-four players then make it to the final tournament. The 2009 finals were held at Batemans Brewery in Wainfleet where the winner of the overall competition won a ÂŁ300 cash prize. Defending the individual title will be Alan Powell of the Napoleon pub, Fishtoft Road, Boston.
