Leicestershire brewery Everards has teamed up with rugby star Louis Deacon to create Tiger Green Bullet, a limited edition ale brewed to celebrate the Leicester Tigers and England second row’s benefit year.
The green bullet hops – which the beer takes its name from – were chosen by Louis, who has been with Leicester Tigers since joining the club’s academy in 1997. Along with Tigers colleagues, Tom Youngs, Dan Cole and George Chuter, Louis was invited to Everards to experience the brewing process and enjoy the first taste of his benefit beer.
Louis commented: “I was honoured when Everards offered to brew a beer for my benefit year. It’s been great experience working with the brewing team and learning about the brewing process, choosing ingredients and of course brewing the beer.”
A twist on the traditional Tiger Best Bitter, official beer of the Leicester Tigers, Green Bullet offers a delicate hint of raisins and fruits with a fresh clean bitterness and abundance of aroma, whilst retaining the original beer’s rounded toffee character.
Erika Hardy, Head of Marketing at Everards commented: “Louis is a talented rugby player. He’s been on the Leicester Tigers first team for 12 years and has played for England, so we were very excited to brew a beer for him. We used the best ingredients in Green Bullet and we are really pleased with how it’s turned out.”
Everards has been the official beer supplier to the Leicester Tigers since 1992 and the new beer strengthens its relationship with the club. Tiger Green Bullet was officially unveiled at a supporters’ pie and pint night at the Welford Road stadium on 10 October.
Erika added: “Tiger Best Bitter is a favourite amongst rugby fans and we hope that Green Bullet will prove just as popular.”
Tiger Green bullet will be available in selected Everards pubs from February 2013.
