Great Newsome Brewery Wins Drinks Award

Great Newsome Sleck Yorkshire’s Dust has taken the top drinks award at the prestigious Yorkshire’s Finest Taste Awards held at the Guild Hall in York.

Sleck Dust, the original brew came out top after tastings by a top judging panel to be crowned top local drink at the awards ceremony in York’s Guild Hall on Friday 28th September hosted by Rosemary Shrager, the renowned chef, cookery writer and television personality.

“It is a fantastic award for us especially after we ended runners up in 2011”, said Matthew Hodgson, director of Great Newsome Brewery. “Sleck Dust is our original brew, our most popular beer and surprisingly it’s the first award it has won”, he added. “ It’s great recognition for us and a huge pat on the back for the whole team here at the brewery plus it’s also a huge boost for this corner of East Yorkshire which is quite often overlooked.”

Sleck Dust is a pale straw coloured beer sold as both a cask and bottled beer and is named after an old East Yorkshire farming term meaning to quench the thirst or slake the dust, during harvest time in the days before modern farm machinery. Sleck Dust is Great Newsome’s flagship beer available all year round and accounts for over a 25% of all the beer it brews.
