Pharaonic Ales & Tales Event at Hobsons Brewery
Hobsons Brewery and Cooking Like Cleopatra have teamed up to organise a special event on Thursday, 26 March at 7:30pm at the Brewery’s new tasting room in Cleobury Mortimer, where Shropshire Ales meets Egyptian mezze.
The very fact that a 3,000 year old tomb of an ancient beer brewer has recently been discovered in the Egyptian city of Luxor, has inspired Marina Ibrahim, Egyptian mezze guru and Kate Pearce, Hobsons Marketing Manager to put this exciting event together.
The evening allows guests to taste popular Egyptian vegetarian dishes together with the appetizing range of various Hobsons ales on offer. The menu includes a Salata Bangar Egyptian beetroot salad, Baba Ghanoush, a hot dish of Ful Medammes, the national dish served with Egyptian pocket bread freshly baked by Robert Swift from Bread to Bake and some sweet dates cakes “Jewels of the Nile” for dessert.
Marina Ibrahim said: “The legend goes that beer in Pharaonic times was believed to have been an important part of the ancient Egyptian people’s staple diet to help keep them strong and build the Pyramids. Clearly, we won’t be using ancient Egyptian beer, but some of Hobson’s lovely brews go very well with the Egyptian dishes I will be creating.”
Considering it’s from one of the oldest civilisations in the world, Egyptian food is not as well known as it should be. Shropshire based Egyptian-German Marina Ibrahim, an Intercultural Training Consultant and Coach, is passionate about the cuisine of her father’s culture and the amazing street food recipes of Cairo are as old as the Pharaohs.
Kate Pearce believes that: “Egyptian food is on the cusp of being embraced by the western world on the scale of Indian, Thai or Chinese food. It certainly deserves to be and our range of Hobsons Ales not only go ideally with, the vast array of flavours and aromas means there is something for everyone on that night.”
Tickets are priced £20 per person, pre booking only. Tickets can be purchases from Hobsons Brewery Tel: 01299 270837 or online at www.hobsons-brewery.co.uk
