Moorhouses scoops Best Pr Initiative

Moorhouses’ 140th anniversary celebrations helped it take the Best Pr Initiative award, sponsored by The Publican, at the first SIBA Local Brewing Business Awards.

David Grant, managing director of the the Burnley-based brewer picked up the prize from The Publican’s deputy editor Daniel Pearce and Keith Bott, chairman of SIBA at an awards ceremony.

Moorhouses’ 140th anniversary celebrations, which took place in June, included a Victorian-themed trip on the East Lancashire Steam Railway.

The overall winner of the awards was named as Cumbria’s Hawkshead Brewery, while other prizes went to brewers including Everards (Best Promotion and Best Support for an On-Trade Customer) and the Isle of Skye Brewery (Best Innovation).

Alex Brodie, managing director of the Hawkshead Brewery, said: “This award is a recognition of what we are trying to do to prove just how far the small brewing industry has come.”

The awards, held at the Institute of Directors in London, saw nine awards given to local brewers in recognition of their initiatives to grow their businesses.

Best PR initiative: Moorhouses; Wentworth (Highly Commended), Skinners (Highly Commended)

Best use of electronic media: Meantime

Best innovation: Isle of Skye

Best promotion: Everards

Best packaging: Wye Valley; Saltaire (Highly Commended)

Best new launch: Hawkshead; Meantime (Highly Commended); Westerham (Highly Commended)

Overall winner: Hawkshead
