Saltaire Brewery highly commended by SIBA
Saltaire Brewery, one of Yorkshire’s newest micro breweries, was awarded a commendation by the Society of Independent Brewers at their inaugural Local Brewing Business Awards at the Institute of Directors in Pall Mall, London on Tuesday 31st October.
The awards were established to celebrate local brewers’ creativity, innovation and commitment to excellence.
Sponsored by Lloyds TSB, there were eight different categories focusing on different business achievements and best business practise.
The judges commended Saltaire Brewery in the “Best Packaging Initiative” category for its bottle labelling.
Managing Director, Paul Simpson explained “The design on the bottle label supports our Mission to Inform amd to educate beer drinkers on what goes into making a great British pint. The labels contain a full recipe, with the malts used and even the percentages included in the grist. We also provide details of the bittering and aroma hop, as well as the original gravity to which each beer is brewed. The labels also explain the style of beer and a short tasting note. We believe our labels are unique and distinctive really helping beer drinkers appreciate the different elements that make up the wide range of beers now available”.
Head Brewer and Director, Tony Gartland added “Our approach to labelling has already received accolades from a number of established beer writers who have
applauded our efforts to educate drinkers and inform them about beers and brewing. To receive this award in our first six months of operation is a great endorsement of our Mission to Inform which is now receiving national recognition.”
Saltaire Brewery worked with local designer, Imelda Kay, of Studio K, formerly Head of Design at the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television, to develop the brand, logo, tone and look & feel across all media including the bottle labelling.
“The challenge was to capture the brand essence and heritage with a contemporary twist. The colours, font and clean lines help to achieve this, ensuring that the bottles stand out in what is a highly competitive market”.
