Counties:
Representatives to the North
Andrew Whalley – York Brewery Co Ltd
Andrew is Chairman of the North region and General Manager at York Brewery
Gregory Bolton – Coach House Brewing Co. Ltd.
Greg was born and raised in Lancashire. He is married with two grown up children; one who has just finished university and the second with another year to go. After qualifying as an Electrical Engineer Greg took a position as Manager of a Club Services Company. He was then successful with an application for a sales position with Tetley Walker who were then part of Allied Lyons.
Greg worked his way up from a Sales Representative to Area Manager before being asked to form a Debt Recovery Department to follow up on unsecured loans and loan customers who had ceased trading but not repaid their outstanding debt. As Commercial Manager he recovered over £1 million in the first 12 months.
When Allied joined forces with Carlsberg to form Carlsberg Tetley he became Commercial Investment Manager responsible for brewery loans and recoveries throughout the North West of England. But after 25 years and yet another reorganisation Greg was made redundant.
He then spent 2 years with BCW Group (Buchanan, Clark & Wells) a Debt Management Company based in Glasgow but working on contracts for such companies as Carlsberg, Coors & Punch Taverns.
Then after a life-changing telephone call from the MD and co-founder of Coach House Brewery, Greg gave up the corporate lifestyle to become their Sales Director responsible for all sales & marketing issues. Plus he gets to drive the fork-lift truck and deliver the beers when needed.
Greg has represented Coach House at SIBA meetings & functions for the past 7 years and is looking forward to the challenge of being a Council Member.
Tom Mellor – Wold Top Brewery
A farmer by trade, Tom lives and farms at Hunmanby Grange, in a beautiful part of Yorkshire where the Yorkshire Wolds roll down to the sea.
In 2003 when farm incomes were falling he looked at diversifications to ensure the future of his family farm and considered what they did best. They grow excellent malting barley (there are two maltsters in the area), and have their own supply of pure chalk filtered water from a borehole deep in the chalk and putting these two things together the Wold Top Brewery was born. Tom’s farming background puts him in an interesting position as both a supplier and customer to the maltsters. All of their malt is home or wold grown. They are actively working to preserve the environment with the Wold Top Wood, an environmentally friendly farming policy, and electricity is provided by two wind turbines.
A great believer in supporting the local community, Wold Top Brewery employs locally, hosting their own folk festival, supporting other music festivals and local theatre and of course promoting good Yorkshire Beer.
