Carl Beeson
Born in Hucknall, Notts. educated at the County High School Arnold and by the Royal Navy when he joined the Communications Branch in 1964. Joined the meat division of Unigate in 1974 and transferred to St. Ivel as a Senior Buyer in 1982. Left in 1986 to become the Operations Director for Refa Cargo Services an international food brokering and refrigerated shipping and transport company based in Ghent. Bought Summerskills Brewery in 1989. Joined CAMRA in 1976, other hobbies/interest are the Royal Naval Association (Honoury Life Member), The Sealed Knot (17th Cent re-enactment society) with special responsibility for the Royalist Navy, Industrial Archaeology, modern History, the social history and development of the Royal Navy and the consumption of Beer and Plymouth Gin. Married, 2 girls, three grandchildren.
Guy Sheppard
Born in Gloucestershire, Guy spent his formative years in the Midlands developing a liking of mild in the process. He opted out of accountancy after graduating at Exeter University and set up the wholesale brewersâ agents business of Sheppard & Mason in 1977, which was sold in 1991. Guy became part of Exe Valley Brewery in 1991; spent 10+ years as SW Treasurer of SIBA (canât get completely away from accountancy!). Set up and still instrumental in âAles from Devonâ , a consortium of local brewers participating in countywide events. Married to Sue, a priest in the Church of England, with 2 children both of whom have gone off to universities in Scotland.
