MPs and visitors to the House of Commons have been given the chance to sample some of East Yorkshire’s finest as Great Newsome Brewery’s award winning beer ‘Sleck Dust’ has been given a position on pumps in the Strangers Bar in the Houses of Parliament.
The brewery based in South Frodingham near Hull was given the opportunity with the help of their local MP Graham Stuart, who gave his support behind a beer from the only brewery in his constituency stocked in the House of Commons bar.
Matthew Hodgson, 39, director of the family run brewery in Holderness said, “It all came about following my contact with Mr Stuart when we asked for his support to help scrap the Beer Duty Escalator, which was having serious consequences for not only our business but many of the local pubs in the area”.
He added, “Graham kindly leant his support and the discussion turned to offering our beer in the House of Commons and here we are, Sleck Dust quenching the thirst of the Strangers Bar regulars”.
Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart recently back to work following an accident earlier in the year was keen to support the local business, “Small production businesses like the Great Newsome Brewery are vital to getting our economy back on track. It is great to be able to introduce the House of Commons to ‘Sleck Dust’ as a celebration of the achievements of this excellent family run Brewery”.
Mr Hodgson added, “This is extremely exciting for us and we feel honoured to have been given the opportunity to show what fantastic food and drink this part of East Yorkshire has to offer. Sleck Dust is our original brew and we hope that visitors to the House of Commons bar enjoy it”.
Sleck Dust named after an old East Yorkshire farming term meaning ‘to quench the thirst’ will be available as a guest ale within the Strangers Bar.
