A Review of the 2013 UK Malting Barley Crop – Steve Le Poidevin, Crisp Malting Group
Following a prolonged wet winter and cold spring, the outcome of the 2013 malting barley crop has been widely debated, and with this review I hope to be able to be able to reveal the true results!
Hop Scratch and Sniff Interactive Demo – Ali Capper
Ali will be showcasing some of the best hop samples from this season’s crop, explaining the importance of the lupulin glands at the base of the hop flower and the flavour notes they impart. Delegates will be invited to roll up their sleeves and join in the scratch & sniff of the hops to see what aroma notes they can identify.
Sustainable Malting Barley Breeding – Heinrich Maubach, Global Malting Barley Manager
Heinrich has been involved with the breeding industry since the early 80’s, as a technical and then product manager for both malting barley and hybrid barley in Germany. In 2011 Heinrich moved to become European technical marketing manager for malting barley and took on the Global role at the beginning of the year.
This event is free of charge to brewers and will include refreshments and lunch. Space is limited and reservations will be made on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, maximum 2 attendees per brewery.
Alongside the seminars, there is the opportunity for BFBi Members to attend in order to present technical solutions to issues within the brewery and answer specific questions raised by SIBA attendees. We will need to ensure a balanced mix of technical issues being addressed via the table top exhibits and there is limited space at this event. The trade stands will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Cost of attendance is £150 + VAT per company, to include table top area and two attendees with refreshments and lunch.
