Rebel Brewing Co. to collect award for Champion Beer of Cornwall
On March 5th at 1pm the Rebel Brewing Co, Cornwall’s most dynamic microbrewery, will be awarded with two prizes from CAMRA (campaign for real ale).
The event will be hosted at our premises in Penryn, on the Kernick industrial estate – where there will be a free tasting.
The winning beer ‘Mexi-Cocoa’ comes from the mind of our former head brewer now managing director Guillermo Alvarez. It’s a dark stout which is triple infused with chocolate made on site and vanilla at every stage of the brewing and packaging process.
At last years Falmouth beer festival we won both the gold award for speciality beer of Cornwall and champion Cornish ale, allowing entry into this years national competitions including the prestigious Great British Beer festival in London.
Guillermo “For Rebel this is a massive achievement and the culmination of focused hard work on the quality and consistency front. We had some growing pains in moving to our new premises but we came out the other end and these prizes we hope are just the start for 2014. We have an eclectic range of beers each with its merits and this prize will hopefully open up awareness of our brand and beers to the nation. For instance our new seasonal beer called Surf Bum a 3.5% session beer will be available from the end of March.
“We are now confident that our beers can stand up to some of the toughest critics and shine through. We pride ourselves in being masters of our craft and pushing the boundaries of beer. For Mexi-Cocoa, an Imperial Triple Chocolate and Vanilla Stout 8.5%ABV which encompasses all that is Rebel, to be the one paving the road is just phenomenal. It’s a personal comfort knowing peoples palates haven’t been shot by all the American style IPA’s that have just saturated the British beer market in recent years.
“Not many people know but we share the brewery with a Chocolarder, one of six in the country making organic chocolate from bean to bar. This has allowed us to use premium organic chocolate by-products and incorporate them into the making of Mexi-Cocoa. There is no other beer on the market today like it and we hope it will go on to win many more awards.
“We welcome anyone that wants to have a look at how Mexi-Cocoa is made at our brewery on the Kernick Industrial Estate in Penryn; and look out for it and our other beers in pubs, shops and restaurant throughout Cornwall and the UK.”
