Old Tom And Dizzy Blonde Shine At The International Beer Challenge 2014
Robinsons Brewery is celebrating after Old Tom and Dizzy Blonde have scooped two coveted awards at the 2014 International Beer Challenge.
Now in its 18th year, the International Beer Challenge comprises of 18 judges, chaired by Jeff Evans (Author and Editor of eight editions of CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide), from across the industry. The judging panel of experts includes brewers, publicans, journalists and retailers who bring their wealth of experience and knowledge to hundreds of entries from 30 countries.
Following a rigorous tasting process, in which the judges consider the appearance, aroma, taste and finish of every beer entered, Robinsons were delighted to take home a Silver award in the hotly contested Ale category for their multi-award winning favourite, Old Tom.
“Old Tom has been brewed to the same recipe for over 100 years and has always been a firm favourite at Robinsons” said Robinsons’ Brands Manager, Gill Yates. “This latest award proves that our ‘Top Cat’ only gets better with age!”
The news is fantastic for the Stockport Brewer, who have announced that, due to phenomenal demand, Old Tom will be listed in a further 132 Asda stores across the UK from mid-October.
The judges were also ‘wowed’ by Robinsons’ superstar blonde ale, Dizzy Blonde. The 3.8% ABV beer collected a Bronze medal; the first award that Dizzy Blonde has claimed since becoming the leading lady of Robinsons’ core range in 2012.
Gill Yates said: “We’ve been busy in recent years developing new beers to reflect changing consumer tastes. This delectable blonde delight has been winning hearts since her stint as a seasonal beer, now she’s winning awards as well! We’re hoping this is the first of many for Dizzy.”
This success is confirmed by the rapid growth in Robinsons’ Premium Bottled Ales (PBA) range. Recent research from Nielsen shows that Robinsons are the third fastest growing brewer in the PBA sector.
Kate Flanagan, Off Trade Manager at Robinsons said, “Our beers have gone from strength to strength in the recent years. Not only are they award winning, sales are also growing at a really pleasing rate. This demonstrates that not only do the experts rate Robinsons’ beers, so does the consumer.”
The whole range of Robinsons’ bottled ales, including Dizzy Blonde & Old Tom, are available in selected Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Booths and Nisa shops across the UK. For more information on Robinsons’ core ale range, please visit www.robinsonsbrewery.co.uk
