Wadworth winner brews her ‘Perfect Pint’
Judy Waller, a real ale enthusiast from Linwood in Hampshire, has won a Wadworth competition to brew her ‘Perfect Pint’. Her beer, enticingly named ‘Honey Bear Hops’, is the winning brew in Wadworth’s very first ‘Create Your Perfect Pint’ competition and will be available in selected Wadworth pubs throughout Cask Ale Week.
The competition which was launched in July asked customers throughout the Wadworth managed estate to submit their ideas for a name and recipe for their ‘Perfect Pint’. The prize was a visit to brewery in Devizes to help Wadworth’s Master Brewers brew the beer, as well as seeing it sold in pubs in celebration of Cask Ale Week.
‘’We are proud to support Cask Ale Week in Wadworthshire’’ says Trade Marketing Manager Emma Cottam. ‘’The’ Create Your Perfect Pint’ competition was well received, with some 40 entries submitted – including some rather interesting combinations!’’
After much deliberation the judges awarded ‘Honey Bear Hops’ first place; a recipe lovingly created by Wadworth regular Judy whose local pubs are The Red Shoot and The High Corner, both in Linwood. Judy’s unique mix of ingredients which included the use of honey and ginger captivated the judging panel which was made up of Managed Houses Operations Manager Rupert Bagnall, Head Brewer Brian Yorston, and QA Brewer Andy Weaver.
“I was so surprised to hear that I’d won” said Judy. ‘’Taking part in the brewing process was an amazing experience. I look forward to sampling a pint (or two!) in my local – for quality control of course!’’
As well as assisting the Wadworth team in brewing her beer, Judy also received four mini casks of her winning ale and a souvenir pump clip.
Honey Bear Hops will be available in selected Wadworth Managed pubs* during National Cask Ale Week -25th September – 5th October.
