Budget Buster' beer presented to Chancellor
Chancellor George Osborne enjoys a bottle of ‘George’s Budget Buster’, presented to him at the Conservative Party Conference by Andrew Griffiths, chair of the All Party Parliamentary Beer Group, on behalf of the brewing industry
The beer was presented to Mr Osborne alongside the new ‘Cheers 2014’ report, which documents the positive impact of is two consecutive cuts in beer duty. Evidence from a number of SIBA brewers is included in the report, showing how they have invested in their breweries since the reduction in beer duty: increasing brewing capacity, buying new equipment, employing new staff, opening pubs and moving into export.
SIBA managing director Mike Benner said, “This year’s second duty cut demonstrates this government’s commitment to a thriving British brewing industry. We were therefore delighted to show our gratitude to the Chancellor by giving him a well-earned bottle of British beer.”
