Castle Rock launches new ale and image at the Castle
Castle Rock Brewery has unveiled the first addition to its permanent real ale range in five years. Called Red Riding Hood, and described as red-blooded ale, the ale was among those served at hand pumps carrying the company’s new livery which also made a first appearance at the Nottingham CAMRA Robin Hood Beer festival held on Nottingham Castle Green.
Managing director, Colin Wilde, says it was time to evolve the company’s image. “I believe the new branding is strong, vibrant and contemporary while retaining nods to our heritage.
“Hundreds of breweries have opened since we last tweaked our brand image back in 2008 and during that time we’ve served millions more pints; these changes are part of our message that we’re here and as prolific and innovative as ever.”
The new Red Riding Hood ale is brewed using dark crystal malt, with American El Dorado and New Zealand Kohatu hops. Colin says: “Its inspiration comes from the popular beer style emerging in the USA, and thanks to our head brewer, Adrian Redgrove, I’m sure it’ll become popular with its robust malty body, balanced bitterness and a fruity aroma of apricot and peaches.”
Red Riding Hood began life as Lincoln Red, a supposed one-off brewed as part of Castle Rock’s monthly ‘Natural Selection’ series to support the work of Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust. It will join the ever popular Harvest Pale and Elsie Mo as permanently available beers.
