International Brewing and Cider Awards extend deadline
The International Brewing Awards and International Cider Awards 2015 are extending the deadline for entries to Friday 9 January, following requests from brewers and cider makers keen to take part in the competition.
Ruth Evans, director of Brewing Technology Services (BTS), which organises the event, said, “December is a busy time and a number of potential entrants were struggling to meet the end of month deadline. We therefore decided to push back the closing date as a way of giving more brewers and cider makers the chance to submit an entry.” Beers and ciders entered into the competition have to be in Burton-upon-Trent by 30 January for judging in February.
Evans added, “We’ve seen the number of entries climb over the last couple of months as the deadline approaches. What’s especially pleasing is the growing international reach of the awards, which endorses our belief that their reputation is growing globally from one competition to the next.”
Entries to the 2015 awards have been received from all five continents, including a number of countries without a long brewing tradition, and from new entrants to the market as well as long-established brewers and cider makers. In 2013, beers and ciders from 50 countries were judged.
Evans added, “We’re particularly pleased with the response from cider makers, after reintroducing cider at the last awards, in 2013. The fact that cider makers from around the world want to benchmark their product at this competition speaks volumes for the reputation it has established in just two years.”
The International Brewing Awards and International Cider Awards are unique in requiring that all judges are commercially active brewers or cider makers. A panel of around 40 judges from around the world has been recruited to assess the beers and ciders in Burton-upon-Trent. Judging takes place from 10-12 February, with medal winners announced on Friday 13.
Entries to the International Beer Awards and International Cider Awards 2015 close on 9 January. The entry fee for 2015 is £160 (+VAT at UK rate) per beer or cider, with no duty payable on entries due to duty suspension. Entries can be made online at www.brewingawards.org.
