A Flourishing Friendship
The Friendship pub, Glossop, has reopened following a complete transformation courtesy of Robinsons Brewery and tenant Sarah Ozdemir.
The Arundel Street pub, located a stone’s throw away from the bustling High Street, is the second of Robinsons’ Glossop pubs to receive a refurbishment within the last 3 months as the Stockport based brewer continues to invest in its 300 strong pub estate.
“It was certainly time for a change” said Sarah Ozdemir, tenant of The Friendship. “The old look was rustic but very dark and could seem potentially uninviting; the complete opposite of the welcome we give our regulars! After meeting with the design team, we knew that the pub would be refurbished tastefully whilst keeping its original charm.”
The bar area now feels much larger thanks to a new furniture layout including high tables, comfy seating and bentwood stools. Talking points can be found everywhere as local history pictures adorn the walls along with vintage letters and other carefully selected bric-a-brac items including old glass bottles, ceramic jars and books.
The focal point of the pub is undoubtedly its unique circular bar, which has been re-finished incorporating a new bar top with studded steel wrap detail. With a tiled beer board identifying the various beer colours and a bar which now boasts five hand pulls, serving a rotating range of Robinsons’ award-winning cask ales, The Friendship is sure to continue to be a favourite spot amongst cask ale enthusiasts.
Towards the back of the pub, the previously ailing pool room has also been transformed with feature wallpaper depicting old ink quills and the toilets have not been forgotten either; receiving new flooring and timeless wall tiles.
Sarah said: “The transformation is incredible. I love that the designers have incorporated our history, such as keeping our Victorian lantern outside the front door, it really adds charm to our little pub. The hard work everyone from the brewery has put in has been fabulous and the support we received from the Retail Marketing Team and our Business Development Manager, Alan Chapman, has been world class. We’re so proud of the new Friendship and can’t wait to welcome customers old and new!”
Alan Chapman, Business Development Manager for Robinsons Brewery, said: “The Friendship has been given a new lease of life! The design has enabled Sarah and her team to expand their business to offer a greater range of drinks and provide a food offering – a menu of delicious Pieminister pies – for the very first time. We can’t wait to see The Friendship continue to flourish!”
