Second 'Beef Beer and Bubbles' event raises an amazing £ 105,000 for essential repairs to York Minster
A spectacular fundraising event at York Minster has raised more than £ 105,000 for essential repairs and restoration to the fabric of the 800 year old cathedral it was announced today.
The York Minster Fund (YMF) said that the final tally achieved at the second Beef, Beer and Bubbles dinner at York Minster on Friday 14 October far outstripped the £72,000 total achieved at the previous event in 2014.
The dinner, held in the spectacular surroundings of the Minster’s North Transept, was organised by the YMF with the fantastic support of businesses across Yorkshire but especially with the help of Dovecote Park (the Beef), Timothy Taylor’s, Thwaites Brewery and Heineken (the Beer) and Majestic Wines (the Bubbles). William Jackson Food Group (Aunt Bessie’s) provided Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes and the meal was finished off with coffee and chocolates provided by Bettys of Harrogate.
As well as enjoying some of the best food and drink in the county, the 275 guests were treated to a grace sung by the York Minster Choir and then pitted their wits against each other in a general knowledge quiz. They also bid for items in a special auction expertly delivered by Richard Waring from Thomlinsons of Wetherby.
The guests included YMF trustees, Ingrid Roscoe, the Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, fashion designer Ben di Lisi, Mike Coupe, Chief Executive of Sainsbury’s, James Lambert, founder of Yorkshire success story R&R Ice Cream, and supporters from across the county including representatives of the Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire.
The event was compered by Charles Dent, Chairman of Timothy Taylor’s and retiring Chairman of the York Minster Fund.
Commenting on the success of the second Beef, Beer and Bubbles dinner, Neil Sanderson, Director of the York Minster Fund said:
