Husband and wife microbrewery Baker’s Dozen take home top East Region beer award
Baker’s Dozen Brewery in Stamford have taken home the top award in the East of England region of the SIBA Independent Beer Awards, winning Overall Champion Gold.
Their ’12 Second Panda’ IPA proved a big hit with the expert judges assessing beers during the competition held at Brewpoint in Bedford. The 6% hazy ‘New England’ style IPA is loaded with American citra hops for a big hit of citrus and tropical fruit.
Husband and wife team Dean and Gill Baker were both on-hand to collect their award and commented;
“Amazing! Where do you start, it’s the third year in a row that we’ve won a Gold with undertow, and we entered 12 Second Panda 2 years ago and it got silver, but we wanted to enter it again as we were confident it would do well since we think it has improved since last time – but we never expected it to do this well!”
The prestigious awards, run by the Society of Independent Brewers and Associates (SIBA), and held at the Brewpoint Taproom in Bedford, are judged by brewers and beer experts and seen very much as the brewers’ choice awards in the industry. All of the beers involved in the competition will now be available as part of an ‘Independent Beer Awards Tap Takeover’ at the Legra Tap and other select venues across Leigh-on-Sea – giving local beer lovers the chance to taste this years’ winners.
SIBA East Regional Director Ian Rydings, of Leigh-on-Sea Brewery, was on hand to give out the awards and congratulate this year’s winners;
“A huge well-done to Baker’s Dozen, who have taken home a string of awards in recent years and who’s beers continue to go from strength to strength. The quality of beers in this years keg competition was incredibly high and showed the breadth of quality beers in every style now being brewed across the region. Massive congratulations to all of this year’s winners.”
SIBA this week launched a new ‘Indie Beer’ campaign to highlight beers from truly independent breweries after research found many consumers were confused which beers were independent and which were actually owned by Global lager brands. To find out more visit www.indiebeer.uk
