Highland Brewing Company wins again!
Orkney’s Highland Brewing Company continued its winning ways by adding another clutch of awards at the 2013 International Brewing Awards Competition, held recently in Burton-on-Trent.
The Swannay based brewery won the Gold Medal in Class 3 Cask Ale 4.4%-4.8% ABV with its ‘Pale Ale’. A respectful British nod to the hoppy West Coast USA styles. It is generously charged with crystal malt for colour and depth of flavour which lends the hops a soft velvety length right through the beer.
Also two silver medals with Island Hopping in Class 2 Cask Ale 3.9%-4.3% ABV and Light Munro in Class 1 Dark Beer 2.9%-3.7% ABV.
Highland Brewing Co’s delighted owner and head brewer Rob Hill explained, “We have done remarkably well this year with an eclectic mix of beer styles being recognised as world class. This is an amazing achievement for a relatively small brewery that strives for perfection.”
We are now looking forward to collecting the medals at the Awards Ceremony at Guildhall London in April.
The biennial International Brewing Awards, first held in 1886, is the oldest beer competition in the world and generally regarded as the most prestigious in the brewing industry. With nearly 1100 entries from 45 countries and beers being judged by selected professional working brewers over a three day period they are rightly dubbed the ‘beer Oscars’.
