SIBA Thanks Chancellor for Beer Duty Cut

SIBA Chairman Keith Bott presented Chancellor George Osborne with a framed pump clip of ‘Pennies from 11’, the beer brewed by Tatton Brewery, in the Chancellor’s constituency, to commemorate his historic decision to cut beer duty.
The presentation was made at the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group’s annual dinner earlier this week, where Chancellor Osborne was later named as the Group’s Beer Drinker of the Year 2013. Accepting the Award, he said, “It was more than a cut in beer duty. It is a symbol that Parliament cares about this industry, and about the people employed in this industry.”
He ended his speech by saying, “On behalf of all members of Parliament to all representatives of the industry, you can hopefully take what has happened this year as a recognition that we heard what you were saying and we listened and we have reacted.”
Pennies from 11 was one of two beers brewed by SIBA members to mark the end of the beer duty escalator in this year’s Budget. Bird’s Brewery in Bromsgrove produced ‘Sajid’s Choice’ for Sajid Javid, their MP and Economic Secretary to the Treasury. Both beers were sold in the Strangers’ Bar in the House of Commons last month, and enjoyed by the MPs for whom they were brewed.
