Hepworths wins in International Brewing Challenge
Sussex craft brewer Hepworth Brewer & Co has won a medal in the International Beer Challenge, taking a Bronze for its Sussex Golden Ale, brewed exclusively for Marks & Spencer.
Hepworths has been brewing for Marks & Spencer since 2008. The 3.8% ABV golden ale is brewed from Sussex Optic Malt, grown to Hepworths’ specifications on the Goodwood estate near Chichester, and Admiral and Goldings hops from award-winning grower Chris Dawes in Bodiam, East Sussex.
Collecting his IBC medal, Hepworths founder Andy Hepworth said, “We take as much pride in the beers we contract brew as we do in our Hepworth branded beers, using the same top quality ingredients and taking the same care throughout the brewing process. It’s therefore very gratifying to receive this recognition from the well-respected International Beer Challenge.” Hepworths received a Bronze medal for the same beer – then called Sussex Bitter – in the 2009 International Brewing Challenge.
The brewer’s own beers have won several plaudits over the years, including the Society of Independent Brewers Supreme Champion Craft Beer in Keg in 2012 for its Conqueror Stout. Off-trade stockists of Hepworths beers include Waitrose, Tesco and Majestic Wine.
