Enthusiastic response to first Indy Beer Can competition
The first ever Indy Beer Can competition closed earlier this month with over 100 entries received, most of them from SIBA brewer members.
The judges will now be assessing the paper entries and choosing 12 brewers to go through to the finals. These brewers will have their beer canned – assuming it isn’t already available in a can – and showcased at the Indy Beer Can Festival, which takes place on 11 September in London. The Gold, Silver and Bronze medal winners will be announced at the event.
SIBA commercial & finance director Nick Stafford said, “We’re delighted that this competition has encouraged many of our members to think about canning their beers. Craft beer in cans is a growing trend in many markets, including the United States, and it’s a packaging format that is encouraging much debate amongst UK brewers.
“We’re confident that there will be a number of SIBA members among the 12 finalists unveiled in September, which will be a great opportunity for them put their beers in front of a new audience. We wish them luck in taking one of the top prizes.”
Finalists will be notified by the end of July and their beers will be canned free of charge by the Can Makers.
