Devon bitter is voted the best in the West Country.
Otter Amber has been named the “Champion Bitter of Britain for the South West” by the Campaign for Real Ale.
Brewed by Otter Brewery in the Blackdown Hills near Honiton, Otter Amber has been recognised by CAMRA as the Westcountry’s best bitter.
Otter Amber is one of the five main beers produced year round by the brewery all of which are made using natural ingredients and their own spring water.
Each brewery in the 16 regions across the country was able to enter up to 5 beers. Following a blind tasting at the Cheltenham Beer Festival by members of CAMRA, landlords and other brewers, Otter Amber, a golden beer in colour with a citrus and piney aroma, came out on top.
The award was presented by CAMRA’s East Devon representative Alan Cottee to Patrick McCaig and Head Brewer Keith Bennett at Otter Brewery.
Patrick added: “This is great news for a great beer! Amber is a year round favourite with our drinkers – the taste is predominantly a balance of soft tropical fruit, spice and smidge of ginger. Landlords require consistency and a stand out flavour on the bar so it’s great to see our beer being held in such high regard.”
