Lincoln Green Celebrating 'Britain's National Beer Day'
Two Nottingham pubs, the Robin Hood (AND) Little John in Arnold and the Sir John Borlase Warren in Canning Circus, are turning back the clock 800 years to celebrate real ale.
On Monday June 15th the two venues, part of Hucknall-based Lincoln Green Pub Company, will be supporting Britain’s National Beer Day.
Staff will be encouraging people to try real ale, particularly with all real ales having 50 per cent off on that day.
The event also coincides with the date 800 years ago when the Magna Carta was sealed in 1215. Article 35 of the Magna Carta specifically mentions beer, as it says: “Let there be throughout our kingdom a single measure for wine and a single measure for ale and a single measure for corn”.
Lincoln Green’s Anthony Hughes said: “The sealing of the Magna Carta was a historic day, and the mention of beer shows just how important it was back in medieval days. “It is still really important to the UK economy, contributing £22 billion annually to Britain’s GDP.
“The fact that the Nottingham branch of the Campaign for Real Ale has more members than any other branch also shows how popular it is in this area, as does the phenomenal success of the annual beer festival at Nottingham Castle.
“Britain’s National Beer Day is about celebrating real ale and trying it if you never have tried it before. When people say they don’t like real ale, I just think they haven’t found the right one for them.”
Lincoln Green recently added the Sir John Borlase Warren to its portfolio, after successfully launching the Robin Hood (AND) Little John, which has been named Nottingham’s 2015 real ale and real cider pub of the year accolades.
Mark Swain, manager at the Robin Hood (AND) Little John, said: “Real Ale has soul, character and personality and is why people are flocking to this particular pub. We’re delighted to be taking part in Britain’s National Beer Day as, hopefully, more people will be tempted to try it.”
Adam Godfrey, from the Sir John Borlase Warren added: “A great pub is the heart of the community, where people can enjoy a drink in a safe, social environment. If you’ve never tried real ale, what better time to do so.”
