English craft brewers toast to Queen and country

Tomorrow (Saturday 11th) is set to be a bumper celebration day as commemorative beers from British independent craft brewers are raised in support of the Queen’s 90th birthday and England’s opening match of Euro 2016.

Details of a string of celebration ales have been released by SIBA, the Society of Independent Brewers, who’s craft beer brewing members have come out in strong support of Queen Elizabeth’s 90th. Beers include ‘Right RoyAle’ from Goosnargh Brewing Co in Lancashire, ‘All Ale to the Queen’ by St Peter’s Brewery in Suffolk and ’90 Glorious Years’ by the appropriately named Windsor & Eton brewery in Berkshire, who brewed the beer using barley from the Queen’s own Royal farm in Windsor.

With British brewed independent craft beer growing in popularity and availability, SIBA are encouraging Royalists and footy fans alike to opt for a local-brewed beer this saturday.

“Millions of people across England will be visiting pubs this weekend to watch England against Russia in the Euro 2016 competition and to toast the Queen’s historic 90th Birthday, and what better way to celebrate than with a British beer brewed independent craft beer – particularly if you’re lucky enough to get your hands on one brewed specifically to commemorate the occasion!”
Tony Jerome, SIBA Director

Windsor & Eton Brewery brewed their commemorative 4% abv Pale Ale with traditional Maris Otter barley grown on the Royal Farms in Windsor, and a new English Hop variety ‘Olicana’, which they say gives the ‘majestic pale ale a contemporary hoppy twist and a fruity aroma with lemongrass and elderflower notes’.

Everards brewery in Leicester have brewed a special version of their ‘Crown’ beer, which was first brewed in 2012 to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. The copper coloured ale is brewed with English grown First Gold hops and is said to be ‘bursting with tropical and citrus flavours’. Claire Cannell, Brands Manager at Everards said: “We’re excited to bring this fantastic beer back for another exciting royal occasion that the country will be celebrating together!

Another brewery using British hops in their commemorative brew, is Billericay Brewery, who have made use of the aptly-named ‘Sovereign’ hops in their ‘Gold Sovereign’, which was first brewed last September to mark Queen Elizabeth II becoming the longest reigning British monarch and has been brewed again to mark the official celebrations in June.

If you can’t get a hold of a commemorative beer though, SIBA say you should still be buying British this weekend,

“British-brewed independent craft beer is absolutely booming as more and more people discover the quality and flavour that is on offer. Whether it’s a crisp craft brewed lager or a refreshing British pale ale, make sure you are buying British this weekend, rather than opting for the same old international brands – patriotism never tasted so good!”

the eye of the Director Ships who’s name is Tony Graham. He asked us to contact the Captain of the HMS Queen Elizabeth the new aircraft carrier who would be interested in knowing that a beer is named after his ship.

His name is Captain Simon Petitt who asked us to re brew the beer for the launch which we was happy to do. The navy also sent down an officer from the aircraft carrier alliance to present us with the ships crest and we presented something to the aircraft carrier its self which I might add is on the ships inventory and now adorns the ships mess wall. I have attached a couple of photos.
We also had our local MP here.”
