Beartown Brewery is a hardworking northern brewery which has been making beer that transcends generations since 1994.
We proudly brew traditional beers and we’re also committed to innovating. After all, one generation’s revolution can become the next generation’s tradition.
Our brewery in Congleton is centred around a modern 40hl three-vessel kit and our output is split approximately 50/50 between cask and keg. We employ 20 people across our head office and brewery teams and their hard work and passion drives our growth.

About the Role:
We are looking for an experienced brewer to join our production team. Reporting to the Head Brewer, you will lead a small team on your shift and carry out and/or manage all stages of the production process as and when required.
The Shift Brewer’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Wort production
- Fermentation management
- Cellaring (including tank CIPs and beer transfers)
- Filtration
- Yeast cropping and forecasting
- Packaging
- Laboratory work
- Accurate completion of production records
- Assisting with development and refinement of beer recipes
- Attending weekly production meetings
- Helping to achieve brewery KPIs
- Maintaining product consistency through sensory testing
- Monitoring and helping to maintain key quality control standards
- Adhering to relevant health and safety standards
This is a full-time role that requires working 8-hour shifts, alternating between mornings (starting at 6am) and afternoons (finishing by 6pm). Occasional weekend work may be required to complete fermentation checks and cellaring tasks.
About You:
The ideal candidate will have:
- A minimum of three years’ commercial brewing experience.
- An in-depth knowledge of brewing techniques, raw materials and how they contribute to the finished product.
- Knowledge of quality control and laboratory work
- A formal brewing qualification such as the IBD GCB
- Meticulous attention to detail
- The ability to work to a timescale and still deliver outstanding results
- Excellent communication skills and a proven record of managing people
- The ability to work well as part of a small team
- A passion for producing great quality beer
- A forklift licence
- The right to live and work in the UK
This position is physically demanding. You will need to be able to:
- Lift malt sacks unaided and lift full casks and kegs with assistance.
- Frequently climb stairs and steps
- Work in hot, cold and humid environments.
- Stand, walk and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
