Brewer
Job Description:
Hop Union Brewery is a family-run brewery based in Bristol, brewing award-winning craft beer for over 18 years. We produce beer across cask, keg and can, operating a 27hL brewhouse installed in 2021, alongside a 150L pilot kit for recipe development and experimentation.
We are now looking for a motivated, hands-on Brewer to join our growing production team and play a key role in maintaining and improving the quality, consistency and efficiency of our beers.
The Role
You will be involved in the day-to-day brewing and production operations, from wort production through fermentation, conditioning and packaging, while working to high standards of quality, safety and cleanliness.
This role suits someone who is practical, organised, quality-driven, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a small team.
Key Responsibilities
Brewing & Fermentation
- Carry out daily brewhouse operations in line with recipes and production schedules
- Manage fermentations including cropping, sampling, testing, dry hopping, conditioning, carbonation and chilling
- Record production data accurately and troubleshoot issues as they arise
- Support pilot brewing and recipe development where appropriate
Packaging & Cellar
- Cleaning and preparation of casks, kegs and packaging equipment
- Filling casks and kegs with finished beer
- Packaging operations including kegging, canning, labelling, boxing and palletising
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Maintain a safe, clean and organised brewery at all times
- Follow SOPs, HACCP, SIBA FSQ and ISO 22000 standards
- Carry out QC checks and ready-to-package sign-offs
- Keep standard operating procedures up to date
Team & Operations
- Work flexibly within the production team, including unsupervised tasks
- Assist with managing brewery staff when required
- Weekend checks as part of a rota
- Occasional delivery support (clean UK driving licence required)
- Forklift operation (training provided if required)
- Improving quality and efficiency within the brewery
- Maintaining food safety and quality standards
- Contributing to recipe development
- Supporting brand presence, including social media where appropriate.
Public & Events
- Serve beer in the brewery shop when needed
- Support events, tours and festivals and represent Hop Union Brewery positively
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Minimum 2 years’ commercial brewing experience
- Strong work ethic, good time management and attention to detail
- Comfortable with physical work and hands-on production
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable
- IBD General Certificate (or higher) or MSc in Brewing
- Interest in recipe design and process improvement
- Willingness to continue learning and developing brewing knowledge

Pay: £25,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
